EW is reporting that Brooke Smith who plays Dr. Erica Hahn is leaving the show this Thursday. “They don’t really give her a goodbye,” an ABC source says. Brooke told EW “And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV. And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character any more.”
The gay-themed storylines and gay characters are being downplayed and even erased from upcoming scripts. Melissa George who is joining the show next month was supposed to be a love interest for either Callie or Erica, but apparently that isn’t going to happen. “Melissa came on as a lesbian character,” a reliable insider tells me, “but they changed the script and now she isn’t. She starts off flirting with Callie but it never goes anywhere.”
Not that I’ll miss Erica, but I’m disappointed that they’re doing this. I think they should have let it play out more, but I guess they decided to go in a different direction. I hope this abrupt exit for her isn’t going to be a stepback from what good they were trying to do with the storyline.
Battlestar Galactica’s Mary McDonnell will be doing a three episode arc on Grey’s Anatomy. She will be playing a well known Cardiac Surgeon.

According to EW McDonnell will be suffering from “Asperger’s Syndrome” which is a autism-related disorder that causes the person to be socially awkward, and have eccentric behavior.
The arc of episodes begin Nov. 13th on ABC
The past comes back to haunt Izzy in the upcoming episode of Grey’s Anatomy 5.07 “Rise Up”.

Melissa George (Alias, 30 days of night, Turistas, etc.) is in the final negotiations to join the cast of Grey’s Anatomy. She will be playing an intern at Seattle Grace Hospital, and will be a love interest for either Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) or Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith).
I think they need to back off of this, and quickly. I’m all for having Callie and Erica in a relationship on the show because I think it would be something different that we don’t normally see on television. However, I think adding in a third person to try and come between their new budding relationship will just be too much, and too soon. I think they should start Melissa George off with either Izzie or Lexie (can you say ratings through the roof?! Guy’s might outnumber the girls when it comes to viewers!)
Anyway, I think Melissa George will be a wonderful addition to the show. I loved her on Alias, and she did what she could with her parts in both Turistas, and 30 days of night.

Executive producer Shonda Rhimes and Katherine Heigl have had a bit of a strained working relationship since Heigl decided to remove her name from Emmy consideration saying that the writers didn’t deliver Emmy-worthy material. According to Shonda the rumors that Heigl is leaving are false saying “We have every intention of seeing Katherine for the entire season.” Then when asked if Heigl has asked about leaving she said “No, she has not.”

Kevin McKidd of last year’s time-traveling drama Journeyman (which was cancelled), joins the cast of Grey’s Anatomy, and will play a doctor named Owen Hunt who’s just come back from a tour in Iraq. He’s supposedly going to be a love interest for Christina, and might be around for a while.
Mary McDonnell of “Battlestar Galactica” is also going to be a guest star on Grey’s Anatomy. There aren’t any details about her character yet.
